In this week’s podcast, listen to students’ first drafts of statements about the high school. These audio snippets will also appear on our Friends of RCM High Facebook page.
This week we’ve made great progress on the garden. Anne from Zero Waste Humboldt helped us set up our compost bin and Royal Gold donated soil to fill the beds.
After a little break, our high school students are busy and back to work. In ELA, they are polishing essays about Kindred, a novel by Octavia Butler in which a black writer is pulled back in time to her ancestors on a plantation. In science, students are analyzing data that they collected about the health of local watersheds.
We’ve had another week filled with magical experiences – playing ultimate in summer-like sunshine, seeing Coho salmon swimming in the Elk River, learning how to install bike cables, planting our first apple trees, sketching in an art studio. Listen to our students describe their week in their own words .
This week has been a microcosm of all the ways that RCM High School offers its students a uniquely enriching educational experience in a supportive community. We serendipitously met a hydrologist while surveying the local stream, set up an internship with the rad mechanic and owner of Moon Cycles, and hatched plans to sell hot cider and popcorn at Arts Alive in Eureka on Saturday. In this small, close-knit community, each student has the freedom and support to pursue their passions.
This week our Pith Podcast features snippets from the students’ presentations to 8th grade classrooms.
