Spring 2017

Track and Field Season

RCM Running Club is excited for the K-4 track meets of the season:

Grades Kinder through 4th
Tuesday, April 25th, 3:30 to 6:30 p.m., Humboldt State University track
Monday, May 8th, McKinleyville High track
 All track meets are free of charge.

Participation Form must be signed by participant and parent.

Spanish Class

Grades Kinder through 3rd
Tuesdays and Thursdays, 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
April 25th to June 1st

Students play bingo, learn outdoor games, sing classic children’s songs, and do many other fun activities. Along with new material, we also review previous lessons. Taught by Layla Richardson.

Maker Class

Grades 4 – 8
Thursdays, 3:15 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., Room I
April 11 – May 23

Calling all dreamers, makers, and recyclers!  RCM will be offering a class for students interested in creating new projects from recycled or reclaimed materials.  We will begin with learning safety with common maker tools then quickly move into making mini jumper bots, handmade electrical circuits, and automata technology.  If you are someone who enjoys re-imagining, then this class is for you! If you have any questions, contact Michelle D (Adolescent Teacher). Sign up in room C.

Art Club

Grades 3 – 6
Thursdays, 3:15 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The next session of Art Club with Elijah Culbertson and Jennifer Ayo (Keani and Machete’s mom) will begins Thursday, March 30th. The session is Sand Art. The sign up sheet is in Room C.

Science Class

Grades K – 3
Mondays & Wednesdays 3-4:30 p.m.

Claudia Culbertson will be teaching science class for students in grades K-3rd. Classes will be held on Monday and Wednesdays from 3-4:30 p.m. The class will start on March 20th and continue on until May 17. The sign up sheet is in Room C.

Boys Basketball

The RCM Foxes’ Boys’ 6th-8th grade basketball season has begun. Come cheer on the team at one of our games! We play at our opponents’ gyms from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Boys Basketball Schedule.

Zine Class

Grades 3 – 6
Fridays 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
A zine is a small book you create yourself. It can have words, pictures, drawings and poems. It is a fun and creative way to express yourself to the outside world. Classes will be April 7th, 14th, and May 5th, 12th, & 19th . You will be able to decide what topic you want for your zine. You will have access to the materials needed, so you do not need to bring your own, unless you would like too. If you have any questions, e-mail Ava at ava@redwoodmontessori.org. After School Spanish

Grades Kinder – 3
Mondays 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Thursdays 2:30 – 4
January 23rd – March 16th (No class Feb 13th to Feb 23rd)
Students play bingo, learn outdoor games, sing classic children’s songs, and do many other fun activities. Class emphasis includes understanding aspects of Spanish culture from educational perspective. Along with new material, we also review previous lessons. Taught by Layla Richardson.


Glee!

3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Glee! meets January 18th to May 31st. We will not meet 2/15, 2/22 and 4/19. Please mark your calendars.
TALENT SHOW: Glee Club is participating in the talent show on Thursday, April 27th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.  Glee! members must attend rehearsals on two Thursdays, March 30th and April 6th from 3:10 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in addition to our regular schedule. If you have any conflicts, please contact Elizabeth, and we can work something out. Thank you!

After School Art Club

Grades 3 – 6
Thursdays, 3:15 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Art Club with Elijah Culbertson and Jennifer Ayo will begin Thursday, January 19th. There will be four sessions and we will explore drawing, photography, sand art, and ceramics. The first session will be drawing. This session will include three classes on 1/19, 1/26 and 2/2. Students in grades 3rd through 6th are welcome to participate. Please sign up in Room C. There will be no Art Club Thursday, February 9th.

All Grades Cross Country

2016 Cross Country schedule

We are organizing a group of RCM runners to attend at least the following two meets:

Arcata Marsh Run
Tuesday, September 27th 
3:50 p.m. 
 
Pumpkin Run 
Rohner Park, Fortuna
Tuesday, October 11th
3:50 p.m. 
 
Races are 0.4 miles to 2 miles, see schedule for details. Runners who participate in two or more races they will be eligible to run in the Championship Race on Thursday October 20th. Please contact Running & Walking Club volunteers Cathy and Mark Larripa or Lindsey Grossman with any questions. A Sports Physical is required, and can be used for participating in HRRA track meets later in the year as well.

 

Soccer Club

Grades 5 to 8
Fridays, 3:15 p.m. to 4:15 p.m.   
In lieu of a school soccer team this year, RCM will be hosting a weekly Soccer Club for 5th through 8th grade students! Come join the fun on Fridays from 3:15 to 4:15 p.m. If you would like to play soccer with other RCM students fill out the attached form and return it to the office cubby. No physical is required for club sports. If you have any questions contact Bryan.

 

Running and Walking Club

All students are welcome to participate in Running & Walking Club for a half hour after school on Mondays and Wednesdays. There is no fee. Permission forms are here and in Room C.

The After School Program is provided as an optional, fee-based service for students of RCM. The program is available from 2:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
